domain mapping

I’ve bought a domain mapping service from you guys for many years for around $13/year. Now it seems I can’t do this without going premium and paying $99/year. Is this correct? I have no need for anything in the premium package except the domain mapping. That a price hike of 760% and not worth it.

I just want to buy the domain mapping, like I used to be able to do.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    No that’s not correct.

Stand alone upgrades can no longer be purchased. That was discontinued last year. You need to purchase a plan but it can be a Personal Plan.

To use any existing custom domain on any wordpress.COM hosted site requires an upgraded plan.

Yes, you can use the Personal Plan, yes, but you need to add the plan first. If you add the domain first, Premium is selected automatically.

Go to My Site ->Plans and buy the Personal Plan, and then you can go back and claim your free domain at My Site ->Domains ->Add.

Hello, I was under the impression that i could map my co.uk for £11 now it comes to £85. Would I be able to map the co.uk if i upgraded to “personal” or is “premium” my only option?

    Hi sologas,

Would I be able to map the co.uk if i upgraded to “personal” or is “premium” my only option?

Sure! Domain mapping is also available through the Personal plan. If you want to use this plan, start by selecting it from your Plans page:

    https://wordpress.com/plans

Then add the domain mapping option for your domain.

Come back to me if you have any questions.

But the doubt is: can I still map a blog to a domain I have paying the 13 dollars (per year!) but without having to subscribe to any upgrade plan?

    SUGGESTION:

If I upgrade my account (sic; not one of my blogs only) to, say, Personal, I will be able to map all of the blogs in the account to a private domain (bought at WP or elsewhere).

Hello there @edwardkeys, as it says in the above replies, domain mapping is not available as a standalone upgrade.

In order to map a domain you already own, you can upgrade to any of the available upgrade plans. If you wish to use the Personal plan, add that to your cart first before mapping a domain. Later, if you want to add additional domains to that same site, then there is a separate fee available for each domain added. However, your site must first have an existing upgrade Plan in place.

Every upgrade plan is offered per site, per year. You are adding new features to your site, not your account.

Let us know if you have any other question about this.

So for me, that just want the domain mapping, the cost goes from just $13/year, to $35/year for the personal plan PLUS the $13/year for the domain mapping.

It’s like being told that to continue the news paper subscription you’ve had for years, you now also have to buy the editor a new car. Every year. And still having to pay the subscription fee for the news paper.

It’s like the opposite of a bargain, whatever that word is!

    Hi d7urban,

the cost goes from just $13/year, to $35/year for the personal plan PLUS the $13/year for the domain mapping.

Our paid plans include one domain credit which can be used to map a domain you already own (or register a new one). This means you won’t need to pay any more than the plan cost to map your domain.

You would only need to pay an additional $13 if you had already used the domain credit included in the plan and wanted to map an additional domain.

It’s like being told that to continue the news paper subscription you’ve had for years, you now also have to buy the editor a new car.

You are being asked to purchase a plan because your standalone domain mapping upgrade expired several months ago. The Personal plan is the most cost effective option if you are upgrading primarily to map a domain and it includes some other features too.
