    Hi sk8rat246,

It sounds like you have your site hosted through WordPress.com, and you custom domain, “sk8rats.com”, has expired?

When a domain expires, it enters a 10-14 day grace period, where it can be renewed at the regular price. After the grace period ends, it enters a redemption period. During this time, the domain can still be renewed, but there is an $80 redemption fee required.

You can find all of this information on this WordPress Support Page.

I am just a volunteer, so I cannot further assists you with this matter. I’ve added a modlock tag so a staff member and help you!

We love helping you at WordPress.com, but we also understand that there are circumstances where a self-hosted WordPress.org site may be a better choice for you.

We have a Guided Transfer that makes effortless to transition to a new host. There is a one time fee of $129, that includes:

    • Installing the WordPress software at your choice of one of our recommended hosts.
    • Transferring over the content from your WordPress.com site.
    • Installing and configuring Jetpack and a few other plugins to provide features that you have been using on WordPress.com.
    • Configuring and testing permissions so that you’ll be able to have one-click installs and upgrades.
    • Switching your domain(s) name server settings to point over to the new site.
    • Answering questions and providing guidance for you on your new WordPress installation for a two week period.

WordPress has an export tool that enables you to backup all of your content or move it to a new site. Go to My Site > Settings, and select export. There you will be able to select the portion of your content that you want to export.

    I hope that this helps!

    Cheers! :-)

Whilst you are waiting for staff I’ll just add this:-

Warning! Domain mapping upgrade for this domain not found. Please log in and go to the Domains Upgrades page of your blog to use this domain.

A Whois shows that the domain is with GoDaddy and, as it says above, mapping to WordPress.com has expired. Didn’t the link work? Have you let a WordPress.com upgraded plan expire or did you just have mapping alone and let it expire? Then the chances are you can’t now renew the mapping without subscribing to a WordPress.com plan.

    PS: It’s Modlook not modlock

Bought the domain through godaddy and made the wordpress blog site that I had the domain linked to years back. Never have bought a plan from wordpress or an upgrade of any kind from that I would recall, I have had this site for 7 years now and it all of sudden has gone down, never got an email about something with wordpress expiring or anything along those lines. Is there a phone number for wordpress to call in and get help? Can I have godaddy do the hosting and have my domains through them but still have my wordpess site? Keep it all the same?

It seems that your domain is registered to not expired until 2018-09-07. If you login to GoDaddy, do you still see the domain as available?

My domain is fine, im just trying to figure out why my wordpress site went down, it looks like something with the domain mapping went wrong?

is there a phone number for wordpress to call in and get help?

There is no phone support at WordPress.com. @tryptc has already alerted staff to respond, but it is the weekend when less staff are available. Are you positive that you haven’t been paying for domain mapping annually here? As that is no longer available as a stand-alone extra, if you let it expire then an upgraded plan will be required for mapping to be re-connected.

If you don’t want to do that then the alternative is to export your WordPress.com content and set up a WordPress.org site at GoDaddy as @tryptc also suggested earlier but I’ve no idea as to the costs.

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

yep looks like that was the issue so I upgraded to the personal plan which says gets rid of the wordpress ads on my site but the ads are still there?

  • Hi there,

I’m glad that you fixed the mapping issue by upgrading to the Personal plan.

I upgraded to the personal plan which says gets rid of the wordpress ads on my site but the ads are still there?

You’re viewing ads because you have enrolled in the WordAds program. If you want to disable them, you can go to My Site > WordAds > Settings and select “Pause ads”. Please note that this will stop you from making any future revenue from the WordAds program.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I’m happy to help :)
