domain mapping

How to I purchase the $13 domain mapping service on it’s own? I even tried a YouTube tutorial, but every time I try on the site it adds a $99/year service to my cart and ‘free’ domain mapping. I can’t afford $99/year and do not want the premium features, Just the $13 domain mapping.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Stand alone upgrades were discontinued over a year ago. Now we need to register a plan and the price has changed. See: http://wordpress.com/pricing/

You can use the Personal Plan, yes, but you need to add the plan first. If you add the domain first, Premium is selected automatically.

Go to My Site ->Plans and buy the Personal Plan, and then you can go back and claim your free domain at My Site ->Domains ->Add.

Thank you for a quick reply.

So the personal plan comes with the domain mapping? Or do I need to purchase the $13 on top of the $4/month?

I’m not a huge fan of their marketing tactics, essentially paying $48-61 for a very simple service. On top of that, they try to force ignorant users to buy even beyond what they need by default, it’s incredibly shady. I’m no expert but I’m not tech naive and I had to come to the forums for help.

Is there any other way to map the domain I already own to WP, or do they exclusively use it to upsell to one of their plans?

    Hi @roscoenick,

Yes, the personal plan includes a custom domain name. Billed yearly at $4/month. You do not need to purchase the domain elsewhere for $13. As a plus, the personal plan allows you to remove ads and you get an additional 3 Gb of storage for a total of 6Gb to host your media files. You will also get email and live chat support.

It is no longer possible to use a domain you already own without an upgraded WordPress.com plan per @timethief earlier response.

    1) I already own a domain as stated

    2) I was not asking about purchasing a domain for 13 dollars, I was talking about the $13 domain mapping service wordpress offers (or used to apparently)

I’ll be going elsewhere for my website, I can’t support shady business practices taking advantage of ignorant people
