Domain mapping

I own my domain on namecheap. At renewal time, I renewed my domain but missed re-mapping it to my free WordPress.com account (where I’ve had it mapped previously). Now it’s telling me I have to upgrade and pay $96 to use my domain. This is just a hobby for me, so I don’t need all that; but I’m not willing to part with my name or my content. What can I do??

Since you mentioned that you previously had the standalone domain mapping upgrade, I’ve tagged this thread for Staff attention to see if they will agree to renew it for you. However, much depends on when your grandfathered upgrade expired.
Alternatively, you can also map your domain with the Personal plan which includes other features like additional storage, removal of WPcom ads from your site and direct support via live chat or email by Staff. If you want to purchase the Personal plan, add that to your cart first before proceeding with domain mapping (it’s included in the plan). https://wordpress.com/plans/
