  Just asking.. I like to move or re-route the domain name that is elsewhere. I find that will cost 12-13 or something. But is it mandatory to upgrade your plan? I think it is :)…

  To use any custom domain whether you want to buy a new domain or map it at WordPress.com, you require a paid plan.

  Every upgraded plan comes with a free domain credit. You can map a domain at $13 per year.

  I am following up on the Modlook tag but ravichahar has answered correctly. You will need a plan in order to map the domain.
