  We purchased domain hosting through a group called Network Solutions. If they handle mapping, do we have to do anything on the WordPress site we create?

  If you create a WordPress site, hosted here on WordPress.com, you can map your existing domain following these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  If you build a WordPress site and host it outside of WordPress.com, you can ask for help from the hosting provider or at the WordPress.org forums:
  https://wordpress.org/support/
