Domain mapping

  I used to map my domain name to my WordPress.com site a few years ago and all it cost me was £11 a year. Now I seem to have to pay for a plan at a much higher price that I don’t want. Is the cheaper domain mapping option on its own really no longer available?

  You can only map and connect the domain subscription to your WordPress.com-hosted website if your site is in a paid plan subscription – without a plan, you will not be able to map and use the domain name as your site address either.
  
  Are you looking to use this domain name as the primary site address for your website?

  Thanks very much for your reply. That’s disappointing to hear. I am looking to use the domain name as the primary site for my address. It only seems to be offering me the premium plan option when I go to connect my domain. Do you know if that’s the only option open to me or can I take the personal plan and still connect my own domain name? Thanks in advance for your help.

  I’m happy to help! You can map your domain on the Personal plan as well. Make sure that you have an active plan subscription or if you don’t, please subscribe to it from Upgrades > Plans on your Dashboard.
