  I am confused about the domain mapping. I cannot transfer my newly registered domain for a few weeks. What is the difference and I am confused on how to begin?

  Please tell me where did you purchase the domain and where are you trying to transfer it.

  If you purchased the domain with the third party domain register and you want to use it on your WordPress.com site you can see how to do it here.
  In the article, there is as well the list with the common domain registers and how to access the DNS area that you will need in order to point the domain to WordPress.com:

  Please note that in order to use the custom domain on the WordPress.com website you will need one of the membership plans since it cannot be used on a free one.
