Domain mapping?

I am completely confused about domain mapping. What is the difference between domain mapping and domain hosting? My domain is currently hosted by GoDaddy. I cant decide if I should keep it there or transfer to WordPress? And I want to make sure that my web address will just be .com not .wordpress.com

It seems that you are trying to figure out whether to transfer your domain to WordPress to host your site or to have GoDaddy as your host provider but map your domain to your WordPress.com site.
