Domain mapping
-
I have been advised that it will take 60 days for my domain to be mapped over from Go Daddy. Do I need to take any action to make this happen? Also, can I continue to design my site whilst I wait for that to happen?

Hello –
What is your WordPress website address?
It can take up to 72 hours for your domain name servers (DNS) to update fully.
If your website is hosted on WordPress.com there are two important steps to mapping your domain to your WordPress.com site.
Attaching your domain to your WordPress.com site
Updating your domain name’s name servers to point to WordPress.comYou can read more about mapping domain from the help documentation; https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-common-domain-providers

Thank you for your prompt reply.
I do not have a wordpress website address. I am wanting to move my own external domain over to wordpress. From Go Daddy.
Many thanks

Hi –
Before You begin the transfer to get started, you’ll need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site (such as a Personal, Premium, or Business plan). You can read more about creating a WordPress account and learn about the plans here: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/
For transferring a domain you already own to WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/
I hope this helps.

Hi there,
The 60-day wait you refer to only applies to transferring a domain registration: as per ICANN regulations, any new domain cannot be transferred to another domain provider for 60 days after registration.
But this in no way prevents you from mapping the domain here, as that simply involves pointing the domain to our servers while still having it registered at GoDaddy.
Go to https://wordpress.com/start/site/ to create a new WordPress.com site.
On the domains step, select the option to use a domain you already own, and then select domain mapping.
On the plans step, you’ll also need to select one of our paid plans.
You can find details on the changes you’ll need to make on GoDaddy’s end in the support page @obt28 linked to in their first reply.
