Domain mapping
-
Hi there,
I have been looking into the domain mapping/transfer information but can’t seem to find an answer.
I want to transfer a domain that I currently own with Squarespace, over to WordPress.
My question is, when this is /mapped transferred over will the dara.digital Squarespace site still be able to be used/be live while I’m building the WordPress site? or will this be inactive?
if it is inactive, is there another way to approach this? perhaps building the WordPress site under a different domain and then mapping the ‘dara.digital’ domain later when it is ready to go live?
Cheers for any help.

Hi there,
That is not an issue – what you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a
.wordpress.comor a.home.blogsubdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not this is the platform you want to use. The site starts off private until you are ready to launch it.Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over from Squarespace:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
map an existing domain:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Or even creating a new one:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/
Hope this helps,
