Domain Mapping

Hi I am going to use my own domain for my new WP site.
So once I change the name servers to WP, what do I do with the current IP it is pointing to?

It is currently pointed to the current website’s hosting. Do I just leave it and the name servers will override it?

Or do I also need to change the IP it is pointing to?
    My domain is with Godaddy.

    Thank you

  • Hi @franksmr, so long as the domain is properly mapped here, you can just point to our name servers. Our name servers will direct the domain to the proper site, and we’ll handle the A records for you.

Ok so then I just change the domain servers to WP’s and I should be good to go rt?

Also I would like to use my own domain name. When I go to checkout it keeps charging me for a premiuim subscription ($8) but I want the personal one for $4.

can I use my own domain name for the $4 plan?

  • Change the name servers, and then add the domain mapping upgrade with one of our plans, yes. You can use the Personal Plan as well. Go to My Site ->Plans first to select that plan, and then add the domain mapping afterwards.

The name servers determine who manages your domain’s DNS, where the IP address, among other stuff is set. So by changing the name servers you’re giving us control over your domain’s DNS, allowing us to set the records needed for the domain to work. This also automatically disables any records currently set on your domain.
