Domain mapping

  Trying to use my domain name I purchased from somewhere else and I clicked on the instructions provided by wordpress and they appear to be old or something because when you follow it step by step it does does match. It makes me choose a domain right away and does not give me an option to add a domain->use domain I own. Can anyone help?

  Hi there,

  Yes that is possible. When you create your new site (which you can do from this link) a “WordPress.com” address will be assigned to the site for free. Choose this free address instead of setting a custom address, and you can use it as a private URL to get your site all set up.

  Once it is ready to “launch” you can connect your domain at that time by upgrading to any of the plans here, which all include the ability to set a custom address: https://wordpress.com/pricing/

  Edit: Apologies, I noticed you have mapping for mileymischief.com on your account now that I can see.

  You do not have to use that for now. You can set your site up at the WordPress.com address it has now, and the connect it when you are ready to launch.
