Domain Mapping

I am considering the Domain Mapping upgrade offered here at WP.com.

My current address is http://%5Bmyblogname%5D.wordpress.com. After the upgrade, it will be http://%5Bmyblogname%5D.com. If I understand how this works correctly, people will be able to visit my site using either URL. Will this affect how search engines like google, and services like Technorati, rank my site? What about subscribers using Reader? Other reader programs?

In other words, by doing this upgrade, will my traffic generated by searches and other social networking sites be affected? Or will I have to revisit all those services and register http://%5Bmyblogname%5D.com?

    So many questions . . .

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

It’s not strictly necessary, but it is a good idea and seems, in my experience, to expedite the indexing of your new domain name.

You will lose technorati rank, because Technorati is stupid and cannot understand two URLs for one blog; your old URL will lose Technorati juice as people stop linking to it and link to the new one. The new one starts from zero, like a brand new blog. It takes in my experience four to six months to get back where you were before, but it’s a very good idea to do it anyway. That way, when and if you ever move off WP.com, the links to your blog can go anywhere you can use your custom domain name.
