domain mapping

(Hope this is appropriate forum), I am looking to domain map my owned url in place of my current http://clarkscottroger.wordpress.com.

When this takes change takes effect, will I need to go back to all the places I linked ‘http://clarkscottroger.wordpress.com’ and replace it with my new url?

In other words will I have to start all over to get ‘visibilty’ for my blog because of the new url? or will it still be found at the old address.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Any clarkscottroger.wordpress.com links out and around the web will automatically redirect to the new URL; that is the one of the beauties of domain mapping. You will not have to change the URL’s anywhere, but I would suggest that anyplace where someone might have added you to their blogroll or links pages, alert them to the URL change and have them correct their links. That way you will start building page rank and such for the new blog domain name.

When you map a new domain name to an existing blog, as far as the search engines are concerned, you will be starting over from scratch, but because all the old links are automatically redirecting to the new domain name, you should recover pretty quickly – probably 3-6 months.

Thank you for the info; if I could ask one more ‘related’ question. (Apologise if the question is more subjective/unanswerable than I think…)

I have had my blog up since June have been happy with what I see in my blog stats.
I suspect the ‘setback’ that I will have to recover from (3-6 months) is not so great given how new at this the blog is.

(In your opinion) would this be the best time to do the domain mapping, rather than wait?

Most definitely do the domain mapping as soon as you can. The older and more established the blog is, the longer it takes to recover page rank. It also takes longer for blogs that get a lot of hits.
