Domain mapping

why do I have to pay 13.00 USD for domain mapping when I already purchased the domain & just want to redirect from my domain to my wordpress site?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The domain mapping upgrade does not “just redirect from your domain to the WordPress site”. It makes your domain the address for the site, so all URLs are displayed with the domain name.
This requires processing on the WordPress.com server – and they chose to charege $13 a year for it

Thanks for the reply Tandava108. Does this mean I can purchase this upgrade & have everything sorted wordpress end or do I have to go back & forth to the company I purchased the domain from? Just that they originally said they would do it & now refusing to give me my money back. Want to make sure I can sort this end if I purchase the upgrade

Unfortunately WordPress does not accept transfers in. If you buy a new domain through WordPress they can handle it all, but to use your current domain you will have to pay for the domain at the current company (or another company that accepts transfers) and pay for the domain mapping at WordPress.
This isn’t too bad – I do this on purpose as I want the same domain company to hold my “.org” and “.org.uk” names – WordPress does not sell national domains.

That should be ok then I hope. I already purchased the domain name, but the hosting from them is really bad, so ended up starting a wordpress blog instead. I want to use my purchased .co.uk address for my blog if possible, but didn’t want to spend another 13.00 USD for wordpress to map, if I then had to go back to my domain company & get them to redirect, as this would be impossible by previous run ins with them.
Am I right in thinking that a quick purchase now of wordpress mapping upgrade should redirect without any further headaches? (crosses fingers). Sorry if I sound stupid. This is all very new to me.

The one thing you need to do at the domain company is to change the name servers to the WordPress ones. You can probably do that from a control panel without talking to your provider, but it is not the same for all providers.
After that you do everything at WordPress … except renewing the domain.
