Domain mapping!
-
Hi. For the domain mapping service, how do this differ from a simple web forwarding service?
Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Domain mapping is supported and reliable. Forwarding is not supported and is not reliable.
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com subdomain blog to map from. If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the blog and purchase a domain name by purchasing an annually renewable domain mapping upgrade for the blog.
See here if you do not own a domain http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/
See here for mapping an existing domain that you already own http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Thanks for the reply. Forwarding seems to be working fine now. When you say it’s not support and not reliable, how do you see this?

While we have no policy against domain masking, in our experience our users have a less satisfactory experience when they try that trick rather than going with our Domain Mapping upgrade.
For one example, here’s one user who weighed the pros and cons and decided to go with our service: http://seriouslytrivial.com/2009/01/03/wordpress-domain-forwarding-and-masking/
Admittedly that’s a bit dated but the general gist of their post is still accurate now.

I have registered my domain I have pointed to your name servers aleady, however when I purchase mapping form you will this point to my wordpress.com that that I have created on my server, I don’t want it to point to bmccomputerservices.wordpress.com but bmccomputerservices.com

@bmccomputers, I have updated your primary domain to bmccomputerservices.com so now that will be the address that appears in the browser.
If you ever wish to change this back, you can go to your site’s Dashboard and navigate to Store > Domains.
