Domain Mapping
-
I had purchased a domain from godaddy.com and was trying to map it to my wordpress blog but nothing I tried was working. I then paid the price to have the domain and mapping done through wordpress. Still no luck so I went and deleted the domain from my godaddy account so I would only own the domain through wordpress. How do I get wordpress to configure correctly so I can use this domain as my primary?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Please do not cancel your domain at GoDaddy.com. If you do, it can take maybe weeks to release the domain, and when they do it’s pretty much fair game. If anyone who purchases the domain before you do he/she would be the new owner of the domain. Please try to un-cancel if possible.
After looking into it, it looks like you are still the owner?

All you have to do is update the nameservers to have your domain point to your WordPress.com site. However, if you no longer have the domain registered through GoDaddy it will not work.
If you still own the domain, please go to GoDaddy’s site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMFor more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:

The problem is that I did configure the nameservers as such and then when I would set the purchased domain as the primary it would say the website was unavailable.

Hi there,
Not to worry, as it can be a few minutes or hours until a domain change like that is updated on the internet. To be safe, I visited your site, and your domain appears to be working properly. Here is a screenshot of what I see at your domain:
To explain, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain change is updated world-wide. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, you may also receive a warning message in your browser about “redirect errors” or a blank white screen.
Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your internet service provider updates their records. Please rest assured that everything is proceeding normally with your domain.
If you still have trouble viewing the site after 72 hours has passed, please try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies:
If that doesn’t work, try clearing your local DNS cache:

Please let me know if you have any more questions.
