Domain Mapping

Domain name host is saying they need A Records and IP address for domain mapping. Not nameservers. What can I do?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
It does appear as if you’ve managed to adjust your name servers to point to WordPress.com. I see they’re set as ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com, and ns3.wordpress.com. Were you able to adjust your settings successfully, or do you still need assistance?
A heads up: If you’ve changed your name servers recently, it could take up to 72-hours before things to appear correctly throughout the internet.
If you’re still having problems, could you tell me who your domain host is, so I can research further?
Incidentally, the reason we prefer to have our users use name servers, is that they are static. Our IP addresses are adjusted from time to time, and if you use them, your mapping could “break” when they change.
Thanks so much. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi,
The Host is Telstra. I have since been advised that the domain we want to map to is a sub domain. bdyc.gymnastics.org.au
Our organisation which manages the domain is Gymnastics Australia. They are advising they can’t change the name servers. Are they better off putting in a CNAME?
Thank you
Chris

Chris,
Yes indeed, you’ll want to map this as a subdomain, using a CNAME record.
To clarify, when you have a visitor visit bdyc.gymnastics.org.au, you want them to see the content you’ve created at berridistrictyouthclub.wordpress.com, correct? If so, you haven’t set up your domain mapping properly at WordPress.com.
You’ve mapped bdyc.gymnastics.org.au as if it were your domain. What you want to do is map gymnastics.org.au as your domain, and then add bdyc as a CNAME for that domain.
Directions can be found here:

Thanks much!

Hi Thatrobyn,
OK so to clarify. I want to map my berridistrictyouthclub.wordpress.com blog to bdyc.gymnastics.org.au, so that when people enter bdyc.gymnastics.org.au into their browser they will see berridistrictyouthclub.wordpress.com but will see bdyc.gymnastics.org.au in the URL.
We do not own the gymnastics.org.au domain (our association does) and we just purchase the bdyc.gymnastics.org.au sub domain.
Going by the instructions our registrar needs to put in a CNAME record on their system to point the sub domain to our blog. ‘bdyc.gymnastics.org.au 14400 IN CNAME berridistrictyouthclub.wordpress.com.’
The instructions also show that I should have my primary domain as bdyc.gymnastics.org.au.
Do I have this right? Is there anything else I (or the registrar) need to do?
Thank you for your help.
Chris
