Domain Mapping

    Hi,

I was hoping someone could help me with an issue with Domain Mapping.

i have created a new wordpress site for my Mother In-Law and wanted to have her old website point traffic to the new WordPress one.
If I’ve picked up the information correctly, I have mapped over margaretroseschoolofdance.com and made it the primary site.
I tried to update the NS Lookup settings on my Domain Host server by adding NS1.WordPress.com and NS2.WordPress.com, as I want people to be re-directed to the wordpress site when they browse to margaretroseschoolofdance.com
I think this part may be setup incorrectly, as unfortunately now when I browse to margaretroseschoolofdance.com or margaretroseschoolofdance.wordpress.com, I am seeing my old website.

Sorry but I don’t really know much about DNS settings. I can see that on my host server control panel , I can Add A or CName types.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am experiencing exactly the same issue. Let’s hope someone can advise! I’ll let know know if I make an headway.

Thanks meemusa. Glad I’m not the only one experiencing this.

Is anyone from support available to look into this. I have paid the £13 to map the domain and would appreciate some help on this issue. Thanks

Hi, I am not from support but if I do a DNS lookup it appears that your nameservers have not updated. It is still pointing to easy-internet

    https://www.whatsmydns.net/#NS/margaretroseschoolofdance.com

Chat to your current host as when I had this problem a few years ago I found out that some hosts do not allow you direct access to change NameServers ( even though it appears like you have access ). I had to submit a written request to my Host Provider for them to action on their end.

You should make sure the name servers are setup correctly at the company where you purchased and manage the margaretroseschoolofdance.com domain. Make sure any old name server values are removed and the only ones present are:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

I checked your margaretroseschoolofdance.wordpress.com blog and I see that you do have domain mapping setup. You will be able to switch the mapped domain to primary, but the name servers have to be setup first.

DNS changes such as updating name servers take time to propagate. Each internet provider picks up the changes from a master set of databases at different intervals and that’s why there’s no exact timeframe that can be given for when the new domain will begin to work after a DNS change. In my experience, it takes a few hours or less. Your location may be different, but it should not take more than a day or so to go through.

I agree with cage108 that you should double check with your domain registrar (where you purchased and manage your domain) to ask for help making sure the name servers are set to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, NS2.WORDPRESS.COM, and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM.

@meemusa, it appears that the registrar for meemusa.com is GoDaddy. To finish mapping meemusa.com to your WordPress.com blog, you should contact GoDaddy an ask them to help you verify that your name servers have been updated to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, NS2.WORDPRESS.COM, and NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Changing the name servers will make it so you can use meemusa.com as the mapped domain for https://modernenterpriseelectronicmedia.wordpress.com/

I am having a similar problem. I bought my domain from Google. They told me the registrar is GoDaddy. I called them, and they said they can’t help me.

The details on the wp.com page tells me “if I have access to my name servers.” I do not. What do I do to get my site to show up again?

    Here is my story:

I recently set up a wordpress.com site for a non-profit. I am their volunteer Webmaster. I applied with Google for non-profit status and got a domain from them. I tried to map the domain to the wordpress.com site through the interface 24 hours ago. Now neither the wordpress.com site nor the .org site I mapped to it will display.

Error messages tell me I have to change the nameserver, but I can’t figure out how.

I have tried to follow the wp.com DNS change support page, (https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/) but the instructions to not agree with what I see. The instructions say to click on the NameServers option in the left menu, but that does not exist.

I have only two options: Change Edit DNS and Email. (screen shot below)

These are the warnings I get on the page:

Your nameservers need to be set to NS1.WORDPRESS.COM and NS2.WORDPRESS.COM for these DNS records to work. If you have already updated the nameservers you can ignore this message; it will stop appearing soon.

Please help, as their site is down:

If you wish to host your site atWordPress.com, you will need to update your nameservers as outlined below.

Wherever you bought your domain from is where you will need to go to update the name servers, we cannot help you with that from our side if the domain was purchased elsewhere. Can you try contacting the place where you purchased the domain again? Ask them exactly what is needed in order to regain control of the domain.

Thanks, designsimply. I’m doing my best to make the changes. I bought the domain from Google when I applied for Google for Nonprofits. I’ve located the domain management interface. I did run into some problems with their interface to add/change nameservers. Entering the NS1.WORDPRESS.COM, etc., resulted in an “invalid nameserver value” error. Interestingly, I had to enter them in lower case for them to be accepted. The interface than translated them to all caps. Go figger.

I am hoping that this works and have to wait and see. I hope that my Google docs, Gmail, and other Google apps still work. I understand I may have to make some changes to the settings for those, but I’m not sure if that happens on the wordpress.com site or on the Google admin site.

It works, it works, it works! Yay!

So, in my case, I bought my domain through Google while registering for Google for non-profits to use Google apps.

Even though GoDaddy is the official registrar behind the scenes, had to change the nameserver info with Google, the agent through which I purchased the domain. (In the WP support articles, it says in a couple of places to change it with the registrar. It’s a semantic difference, but confusing to novice users who do not realize which place to make the changes when there is a middle-man in the mix.) I hope this helps clarify for those who come after.

The Google domain management interface is reached through their Admin Console under more options or more apps. One small glitch necessitated that I type the ns(x).wordpress.com name servers in lower case. Otherwise, it was straightforward.

I was warned by both GoDaddy Support (they have a special group that knows the Google API) and WordPress that my mail, Googledocs, and other Google apps may not work after the change of nameserver and that I would have to replace information about them. However, WordPress already had the mail server (MX) info on file. This may be a matter of the order in which changes are made. My email still works. So far.

I think I’m good to go.

Great @dianadiehl1! It looks like you do have the records in place for your Google email address. If you have any trouble though, please let us know!
