domain mapping

I own a specific domain. I need to create a landing page on wp but when I go to create it, it says it is reserved and I don’t see a place where I can do domain mapping. Please help.

Right and what is the URL please?
Without you providing it this thread will remain dead in the water, so to speak.

    re: mapping an existing domain

Please read both of these this first:
    WordPress.com and WordPress.org https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
    Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading

WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.

Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium upgrade bundle.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.

If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

The name is friendsfromhome.com. When I entered it on the initial page as friendsfromhome.wordpress.com is told me it was reserved, which doesn’t make sense to me since I own it through godaddy.com.

Thank you for the links above. They were quite informative.

The top level domain here is wordpress.com. All wordpress.com hosted blogs are on.wordpress.com subdomains like friendsfromhome.wordpress.com.

When we register a username account the matching blog is reserved for our future use. It cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username account.

If and only if you have registered the matching username account 5 years ago https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/friendsfromhome then log in under the correct username account and as the blog is reserved for you and you will register it after logging in under the correct username account.
    https://signup.wordpress.com/signup/?user=1

However, if you changed your username then the blog URL will not be available for use under the new username account.

If you did not register that username account do not despair. There is no domain mapping upgrade for friendsfromhome.com. If you would like to use this domain you will first need to register any .wordpress.com URL (it does not need to match) and then set up domain mapping. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Agh…now this makes sense. That wasn’t me that created that around 5 years ago and why I was so confused. haha

As I understand it, I could create an account as ffh.wordpress.com and then map the domain (friendsfromhome.com) to ffh.wordpress.com and that will fulfill my needs.

    Thank you for your help!!

    That’s correct and you’re welcome.
