Domain Mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I’d like my website and blog to have my domain address (korniyenko.biz) hosted by eNom. How do I do that? I understand I need to use ‘Add Domain’, but I’d like to be sure I keep my email, calendar etc. working as before, because that’s where my primary email is hosted.

Please note I need very clear instructions, because I have very limited understanding or knowledge of related technical issues. (I’ve already read tons of forums, etc. but I’m none the wiser.)

    Thanks in advance!

  • You can map your domain to your WordPress.com site using Domain Mapping upgrade. Here are the instructions to map your domain: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

After you map your domain, there are a few more steps to make your email work. This is because after domain mapping your name servers point to WordPress.com name servers. So you need to add custom DNS records using these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/#adding-custom-dns-records

Give them a try and feel free to ask if you have more questions :)

    Hi,

Many thanks for your swift response!

I have added my domain using Domain Mapping upgrade.

My eNom-hosted Google email still works fine. I’ve just checked. Do I really need to complete the second step with the current configuration? Here’s the screenshot of my WP settings after the domain mapping purchase: https://goo.gl/jaLBHd (I removed my domain name).

    Thanks!
    Sergei

Sorry, but it turns out my “old” website at korniyenko.biz does not get updated when I make changes using the WordPress Windows app. I must have done something wrong with the domain mapping. Can you help?

  • Unknown's avatar

It may take time to propagate dns changes. Have you tried clearing cache and cookies?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Elte,

I’m using the WordPress app. It doesn’t have an option to clear cache.

As for now, accessing the site you gave on previous comment from my browser show that it’s not pointing at wordpress.com yet.

While we’re waiting, I’ll inform support staff to clarify the issue you had.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well, that’s exactly the problem. I don’t know what else I should do (other than buying the mapping feature) to “point” my domain to the wordspress.com.

It’s that basic. Can you help? I read the instructions, but they don’t make sense to me because what I see in the DNS records on Worpress already shows what I see in the instructions. As for eNom, the link that’s in the manual brings me to the page explaining how to point a website to eNom, not from it.

Anyway, I need a step-by-step walk-through from one of you, guys.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Looking at https://who.is/whois/korniyenko.biz

your name server is currently set at:

    dns1.name-services.com
    dns2.name-services.com
    dns3.name-services.com
    dns4.name-services.com
    dns5.name-services.com

You need to change this to

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

You can change the name server by logging in eNom account page.
Look for those value and replace it with wordpress name server.

I’ve changed them, but now my SRV and Email Settings are unavailable. See here, please.

Man, why does it have to be so complicated?!

  • Unknown's avatar

Hmm, Elte, funnily enough, email still works and the WordPress site pops up now as expected.

Maybe I should leave everything as is? Have you checked my screenshot I provided a link for above?

    Thanks,
    Sergei

  • @Sergei,

    Your domain mapping works fine.

Your mail related DNS records (MX records) look fine too. So just leave them as is.

  • Unknown's avatar

OK, great! Turns out the difficult part ended as unexpectedly as it had begun.

    Huge thanks, Elte and Chaitan!

    You’re welcome Sergei :)

    Cheers.

    Hello appopark!

Looks like is all set now! Let us know if you have any other question! :)

    Hi Carin,

    I appreciate your offering help.

I’d like for my blog posts to appear on a page called Blog, which I may have deleted accidentally. Is there a way to create that page and move all my blog posts there? I understand how to create a page easily, but how do I move the posts there?

Also, when setting up website early on (before choosing the template), I remember there was a subdirectory. Maybe that’s what was reserved for the blog posts and I was wrong to get rid of it and it should be restored?

Many thanks for your help in advance,
    Sergei

P.S.: My experience with the WordPress help community has been great so far. Thank you, guys!

  • When you create an empty page and qualify it as a Posts page in your Reading Settings page, WordPress automatically adds all your posts to the Blog page. You don’t have to do anything more to move your posts to the Blog page.

Go to Reading Settings page at https://appopark.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-reading.php

Select the newly created empty page as a Posts page.

Click Save Changes button at the end of the page.

WordPress automatically adds all your posts to your posts page.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Thanks for your kind words on WordPress community. I appreciate them and glad to be of help :)

Thanks a lot, Chaitanya! That really worked, though for a different site.

  • No problem and thanks for letting me know. :)
