Domain Mapping: almost impossible to understand how it works!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Dear helper:
    1) I already own a domain <lasamc.com> and want to build a website with “WordPress.com Personal – annual subscription” (which includes Domain Mapping) BUT, on a different page, your site says that Domain Mapping is included in the “Premium subscription”: there is a mismatch here??

    2) obviously I want to build my site with url http://www.lasamc.com and NOT lasamc.wordpress.com or anything like this… is it possible?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Kind Regards

  • Hi there,

Domain mapping is included in all our plans, Personal, Premium and Business. If you want to use the Personal Plan, first go to My Site ->Plans and add the plan there. Then go to My Site ->Domains to connect your domain.

    2) obviously I want to build my site with url http://www.lasamc.com and NOT lasamc.wordpress.com or anything like this… is it possible?

That is exactly what domain mapping does. All WordPress.com sites have a free address, and you cannot get rid of that free address, but if you map a domain here, that custom address is laid over the free address so the free address is not visible to anyone viewing your site, like putting a fancy dust-jacket over the regular cover for a book.

Please let me know if you have any more questions about this.

    Hi ,
thanks a lot, I’ll go ahead then.
I am assuming that – at any point in time – I can switch to Premium plan?

    Rgds,
    A.

  • Correct. If you switch to Premium later, depending on how close you are to the Personal Plan’s expiration date you should only pay the difference in cost between the two plans.
