Domain mapping an online store
-
I’m working with a store that uses GoDaddy for their hosting and would like to switch to WordPress. I plan to get the business plan. I’m wondering how to go about migrating everything over to WordPress (while keeping the same domain) seamlessly. I want to keep the site live until I’ve got the design ready to publish using WordPress, and I need to know what steps to take so that there is no down time for the site between switching from GoDaddy to WordPress.

Glad to know you plan to shift to WordPress.com. Your best way to move here would be to get your site up and running here on WordPress.com and then just point the domain at the end. Here are some guides to help you get going with it:
https://transferto.wordpress.com/self-hosted-wordpress-org/
My suggestion would be to get started and ones you purchase the Business Plan to gain access to Live chat here, where they can guide you step by step with the process. To make sure you don’t have any downtime you could get the whole site live as per your liking and the last step to just Map the domain here on WordPress.com.
If you could share the URL of the current site, we could help you further recommendations.
Hope this helps, let me know for any further questions.
Thanks!

Sorry, I missed out on your Domain Mapping, you can learn more about Domain mapping on WordPress.com here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
And also which as you mention you have an Online store it should be available in the additional plugins which would be possible with the Business Plan.
Hope this helps to, let me know for any further questions.
Thanks!

Thank you! Just to clarify, the whole store is on GoDaddy. From what I saw on the links, it was talking about importing your content from WordPress.org to .com, so I’m not sure if that’s what I need?
Am I understanding you correctly, I need to set up like a dummy site when I set up the business plan, like a .wordpress.com site and then migrate the domain over from godaddy and replace the .wordpress.com?
The store I’m migrating over to WordPress is bamabredboutique.com

Hi again,
Thank you! Just to clarify, the whole store is on GoDaddy. From what I saw on the links, it was talking about importing your content from WordPress.org to .com, so I'm not sure if that's what I need?Thank you for the details further, and explaining your goal. Best would be you can start with moving your content here on WordPress.com. Purchase the Business Plan by going to and start setting up your site. You would need to choose an e-commerce plugin like woocommerce and set your theme and content as well. Also, note you would get access to Live chat to help you with setting up your site as soon as you have the Business plan so that should be of great help while setting up your store. You also get a complete refund within 30 days if your not satisfied with the services. So you can comfortably go ahead and purchase the plan by navigating to MySites->Plans.
Am I understanding you correctly, I need to set up like a dummy site when I set up the business plan, like a .wordpress.com site and then migrate the domain over from godaddy and replace the .wordpress.com?Yes, you have understood it correctly, ones you set up your site using a yourdomain.wordpress.com URL –– you can then set your custom domain using the Map your existing domain service. You don’t need to migrate your domain here. As of now, WordPress.com does not permit incoming domain transfer. You can keep your domain with your current registrar –– your hosting can be canceled one’s your site is up and running smoothly on WordPress.com! :)
Hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions.
Thanks!
