Why is "cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi" appearing?

My desired outcome is the following:
    1. Make my wordpress blog (hosted at myblog.wordpress.com) available at mydomain.com
    2. Continue to use my current DNS host

    I’ve tried:
    1. Creating a CNAME for mydomain.com to myblog.wordpress.com.

I can confirm the setup is correct, as dig returns the following:

    dig mydomain.com
    ANSWER:
    mydomain.com CNAME myblog.wordpress.com.
    myblog.wordpress.com CNAME lb.wordpress.com.
    lb.wordpress.com. A <IP of wordpress web servers>

I’ve also configured the WordPress Setting “Domain” to be mydomain.com and purchased domain mapping.

Users get redirected as appropriate, however, I have issues with cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi appearing on initial site load (for instance mydomain.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi). I’ve been unable resolve issues with this – I’ve got no idea why it would show up.

Hi. Do you only have domain mapping set up, or did you ALSO have a CNAME record as well? If so, try deleting the CNAME record (you don’t need one for a basic domain mapping).

I have a CNAME setup so that mydomain.com is effectively servered by myblog.wordpress.com.

I do not use “Domain Mapping” in the sense that WordPress serves DNS for me.

I don’t see a Domain Mapping upgrade linked to your account.

Just to make sure: you want to map your domain, such as colinbjohnson.com, to your WordPress blog. Is that correct?

If so, can you try following these directions to see if that helps?

I’m posting for a friend – patrickhouston.net – which had originally redirected through cname to patrickhouston.net – although it has appended cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi in 5 out of 6 web browsers tested. The URL still has the same problem (even when “mapped” to patrick1350.wordpress.com), in Firefox on Windows 7, patrickhouston.net points to http://patrick1350.wordpress.com/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi.

The instructions at http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/ might work, but my desire is to continue to use my current DNS host.
