Domain mapping and registration refund

I requested a refund for my domain registration upgrade since I had mispelt it and would like to change it. I requested a refund about 24 hours after purchasing the upgrade and got a message saying that the cancellation would be processed and the fee would be refunded. Now that I check the cancellation status, there’s a message telling me that I am not able to request a refund (even tho I cancelled it days ago) because It has been 3 days since I have purchased the upgrade.
Could you please explain why I am getting contradictory information?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I have canceled your domain name, as requested. You have been refunded. Please note that it may take up to a week for the refund to show up in your bank account.
The domain will now get sent back to the registrar.
The registrar will decide when to release it back to the open market, which is not guaranteed, but which usually happens within a few weeks.
