Domain Mapping and RSS Feeds
-
I’m planning to purchase a custom URL from WordPress.com (I’ve already got one, but there’s a trademark issue and it has to change). I gather that they day I change the primary URL, all the old RSS subscriptions stop working and readers have to re-subscribe.
Is there a way to allow two RSS feeds to co-exist for a while? Without that, I’m afraid that the day I make the switch, I’ll lose a lot of people.
Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions about this? I gather I can keep the old URL primary for a while, but I’d rather have old subscriptions continue to work along with new ones. Is that possible?
Thanks for any light anybody can shed —

This is incorrect. The old feed works fine for as long as the blog exists. You ALSO get a feed at NewURL.com/feed, though.

Thanks, Raincoaster. Maybe I have a bigger problem. I got a custom domain from wordpress.com on 6/16. (I’ll be changing that, but for now, that’s what I have.) And that’s the date of the last rss notification I have here — with either the old .wordpress feed or the new unique feed. Did I need to turn on feeds somewhere? I don’t see it.
Thanks again for your help.

I just tried resubscribing with a different feed reader. The new url works and produces links to all recent posts. The old .wordpress.com feed still works, and shows old posts — but the last post it displays was the one just prior to the name change.

What I’m trying to say (badly, I fear) is that subscribers who don’t update their feeds don’t learn about new posts.
