domain mapping — don't want in renewal fee

  • Unknown's avatar

When I go to pay for the domain name, I can’t delete the fee for domain mapping & private registration. I’m moving the domain soon to a self-hosted site so definitely don’t want to have to pay for the domain mapping. And I don’t need private registration at all anymore.

    What do I do?

    Thanks,

    Hi there, Leigh,

First off, I thought you might like instructions on how to transfer your domain to another host. I certainly don’t want to you to leave us :) , but I want whatever is most convenient for you! Here are the steps:

    en.support.wordpress.com/domains/transfer-domain-registration/

While you don’t have to maintain private registration, you would need to keep the mapping upgrade in order to keep your domain registered here at WordPress.com. Mapping cannot be separated from domain hosting as you always have to map your domain somewhere — either to a WordPress.com site, or to a site hosted elsewhere.

In order to cancel your private registration, you can click on the link below:
    https://outandaboutmedia.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades

In the box that displays your domain name, there is an option to “Cancel Private Registration.” Select that, and follow the instructions from there.

If you have anymore questions or concerns, please drop me a line! Thanks so much.

Thanks, Robyn! Exactly what I needed.

Have to move to .org because it provides more flexibility for monetization.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi there,

Terrific! I totally understand. The flexibility of a .org site is a better option for you, for sure.

Please let us know if you have any other questions. Best of luck with the self-hosted site!
