Domain Mapping error

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I am trying to setup a new site with the domain cybersecurityawareness.co.uk

I am seeing the error messages ‘an active access token must be used to create a new site for a the user’ and ‘sorry but cybersecurityawareness.co.uk cannot be registered by WordPress.com.

    Please could you advise?

    Thanks

    Hello there!

That’s a great question! I did a WHOIS lookup and it appears that the domain was registered yesterday. Have you already purchased the domain from another registrar? That could cause the error you’re seeing. If you have already purchased the domain from another registrar, I’ll refer you to this guide that WordPress has put together.

    Does that answer your question?

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply, this is our first site on this account therefore I cannot get to the domains page. I get the issue between mapping our domain and checking out.

I have purchased the domain from another registrar. In the guide you sent I cannot get further than ‘Enter the domain you’d like to map and click the blue Add button’ halfway through the first step.

Is there anything more you can offer to help?

    Thanks

After doing a little bit more digging, it appears that this happened to some other people recently. Go ahead and follow the steps from this thread and see if that helps.

If it’s still not working, don’t worry, since you’ve tagged this with modlook, you should get help from WordPress Support soon :)

Backing up a minute from the mapping issue with the domain cybersecurityawareness.co.uk – have you been unable to create a blog on WordPress.com?

  • Unknown's avatar

This is the first time I have ever used WordPress. I have made an account, logged in and have clicked ‘my site’. I am presented with the screen: You don’t have any WordPress sites yet.
Would you like to start one?

I choose a theme and put in my domain and would then press ‘map domain’. I choose my plan, and am then directed to the same domain screen as before where I see the two error messages.

I have not attempted to create a blog as all I am looking to do is create a simple website.

Yes – we use the terms blog and website interchangeably, sorry.

Could you try to start a new site without doing the domain mapping? We can add it after the fact.

Let me know if you’re able to do this.

    Hi

After many attempts over time we are still unable to create a new site, even using the free domain to map our custom domain afterwards.

    Hello again –

Could you tell me the domain you are trying to create?

Is the error message the same each time?

Also, could you let me know what URL you were on (copy the address from the top and paste it) – let me know what steps you took to see this error – if possible, try another browser to see whether you get the same thing.

We’ll get to the bottom of this!

    Hi

Thanks, the domain we were originally trying to map was cybersecurityawareness.co.uk. As this wasn’t working we tried the free WordPress option: cybersecurityawarenesssite.wordpress.com.

Both mapping our domain and choosing the free option still show “An active access token must be used create a new Site for the User”.

The URL is: “https://wordpress.com/start/domains” and the error appears after you choose a domain and choose your plan (premium). After the plan screen I am directed back to step 2, the choose a domain screen.

I am using Google Chrome but have tried this in Internet Explorer, the only other option for me, and experience the same issue. I have also tried clearing my cache, logging out and logging back in.

Thanks for the update. I’m looking further into this for you!

    Hello @infosecmarketing

    The site

    cybersecurityawarenesssite.wordpress.com

    Has been created for you.

Did you want to map your custom domain to that site?

Can you also check that the site is working as expected now (as noted above, we were able to add it)?

Do you have any further info about how you originally signed up? Was it on a mobile app, was it in a older browser, anything could be helpful.

If we can get some useful details there, we might be able to find and fix an underlying bug.

    Hello helper-brucea!

Please help me with a similar problem.
I tried to set up my own domain, but the mapping is failed.
I got this error messages “Sorry but dbproductions.hu has not been registered yet therefore cannot be mapped.”.
After this i tried to set up the name servers in to my domain settings, but is it failed too. “M-PRIF -E- [dbproductions.hu] Cannot get domain data (198.181.116.9 ns1.wordpress.com) “

I think as long as the domainmapping is not good, until the name servers will not be good.

Can you help me to the domain mapping? My own domain is the dbproductions.hu and the wordpress site the https://dbproductionsblog.wordpress.com/

    Thanks In Advance

    BS
    David

    Hello David –

I’ve set up that mapping for you, and set it to expire in one week. Before then can you go in and renew it for the full year?

Then you’ll be able to update the nameservers to point to WordPress.com.

    I’m happy :)

    Hi helper-brucea

The site looks to be working now, thanks for your help!

Yes we would like to map our own domain to the site now if possible?

When I made the account I signed up using the most up to date version of Google Chrome on a PC.

    Thanks for your assistance.
