Domain mapping for the computer illiterate
-
I own a domain and would like to attach my blog to the website, i.e., have it at http://www.karenlbarnes.com/blog.
I read the instrctions, but know so little about this type of thing that it may as well be in a foreign language.
I purchased my domain from godaddy, and host my site at Bludomain. Which one do I need to contact to set this up?
In the instructions, it says I need to change my DNS, but I know I needed to change that in order to have my site show up when the hosting when live. I’m afraid if I change it, the regular part of my site will go down.
Anyone have any tips?
Thanks,
K -
You only need to post once.
We at WordPress.com have our blogs hosted by WordPress itself, and our software works differently from yours. Consequently, there are two different help forums: one for WP.com people, and one for WP.org people, those who are independently hosted. You need to be over in the forum at WordPress.org.
Here is an outline of the differences between the two types of WordPress:

Ok Karen! You’ve got two options:
1) Use WordPress.com and have your blog at http://blog.karenlbarnes.com for example (I’m afraid we don’t support subfolders (domain.com/blog) only subdomains (blog.domain.com) in which case you’ll need to go here and have a look at the section entitled “I own domain.com, and want to map a subdomain of that to my WordPress.com blog. Is that possible?”.
2) Download WordPress from http://wordpress.org/download/ and install it yourself on your hosting at Bludomain. You can find help at http://wordpress.org/support/ and http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page .

easiest way:
setup a subfolder on your domain “/blog”
in the subfolder make a html file “index.html” with the following contents pasted in:<html> <head> <title>karenlbarnes.com Blog</title> </head> <FRAMESET COLS="*" FRAMEBORDER="no" border="0"> <FRAME SRC="http://karenlbarnes.wordpress.com/" scrolling="auto" noresize name="blog" id="blog"> </FRAMESET> <body> </body> </html> -
I should mention (in case it wasn’t clear) you would then be able to view the blog by using:
http://www.karenlbarnes.com/blog/this would also work:

Thanks for your answers. I checked out the wordpress.org support area, but it pretty much looks like another language to me. I’ll keep trying to decipher it.
Hanni and Michah-I’m using a template, and I”m pretty sure I can’t add a subfolder to it. Thanks, though.
