Domain Mapping Issue

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there! This may be a bit complicated as I am not sure whether it is a problem with WordPress or Bluehost. I had connected and built my site, but the domain was not displaying properly. I removed domain mapping from wordpress, thinking I needed to do so to display properly while being hosted on BlueHost, and it caused my website to be displayed completely incorrect. Hoping you can help resolve the issue or point me in the right direction. Thanks!

  • Hi there,

So, which site are you wanting to display properly? Because I do see that the mapping subscription for https://bisousmorgan.com/ has been deactivated under your account, the name servers of that domain is still pointing over to WordPress.com, not Bluehost – which is why you are receiving the error message when you visit the site.

Are you wanting the site over at Bluehost to display properly with the domain https://bisousmorgan.com/? If so, you’ll need to update the nameservers over at Bluehost and point them back over to Bluehost

I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions

    Thanks,

Hi Darnell, thanks for your response!

I had built the website by entering WordPress through BlueHost. I am wanting to have a self-hosted site through BlueHost (as I have a custom theme) built on/within WordPress.

As I built and launched the site (from entering WordPress through BlueHost), it was displaying the domain as: http://box5705.temp.domains/~bisousmo/

I removed the domain mapping on WordPress as I thought this was preventing the domain from being displayed properly. Now, components of the website I built seem to still be displaying but I cannot figure out how to re-access and have it display properly. Since I have used WordPress, BlueHost, and purchased the domain through GoDaddy, I seem to be going in circles trying to resolve the issue.

  • Your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with Bluehost.

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can find more information here about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

https://wordpress.org/support/ is a great resource for sites using the open source WordPress.org software, and you can find support for that at: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

Your hosting provider’s support team may also be able to assist.
