Make sure you are doing exactly what I post below.
See here for the only accepted methods of payment http://en.support.wordpress.com/payment/
Please read this first Important Notes Before Upgrading http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/#important-notes-before-upgrading
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible. Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made it and the domain mapping purchase here every year.
Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium ujpgrade bundle.
In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.
If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

Hi there,
That’s pretty strange! I tested the process and it worked for me, so I want to make sure I’m investigating the right thing.
Are you starting that process from the Domains page or somewhere else? Can you describe the exact steps you take (for example, where you click on each page) as you go through the process to map that domain? Thanks!

I click on domains:
https://wordpress.com/domainsthen I click on “the3diamonds” icon:
https://wordpress.com/domains/add/the3diamonds.wordpress.comI click on add mapping:
https://wordpress.com/domains/add/mapping/the3diamonds.wordpress.comI enter “www.3diamonds.uk” into the site address box and click “add”
then the checkout page comes up with the http://www.3diamonds.uk in the checkout box to the left, with an opton to pay via card or paypal. I choose paypal.
On the next page I choose UK and enter my postcode and click “pay 11pound with paypal”
I login to paypal successfully where it confirms the 11pounds transaction fee and I click “agree and continue”
and it brings me back to the “plans” page in wordpress with the domain mapping purchase still in the checkout box.
https://wordpress.com/plans/89033434
I check for any upgrades or if it’s mapped or any money has been taken from the paypal account and nothing has happened…
A mystery for sure!
I have tried on two different computers same thing…

Thanks for those details! I’m checking with our team to find out what’s going wrong with that, and I’ll let you know as soon as I get an update. :)

So far we haven’t found the cause of the problem — sorry for the delay! I’ll check in with my team and get you an update as soon as I know more.
The problem right now is limited to some people trying to make purchases with PayPal, so if you have a credit card you can also purchase the domain mapping that way.

ohhh hi again Rachel.
slight problem…. the new domain mapping is for 3diamonds.uk and the one that has been purchased is 3diamonds.eu
Is it possible to change this?
Thanks
-
Sure! I switched your domain mapping from 3diamonds.eu to 3diamonds.uk. Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)
-
many thanks Rachel!
If I wanted modifications made to the site design, how much would this cost? Could I employ anyone to make design changes or can I only make certain design changes?
Thanks
-
You’re welcome! :)
If you’d like to modify the site design, you can use our Custom Design features (including custom fonts, colors, and CSS) for that. Those features are part of our Premium plan, which you can try out from your Plans page.
-
so for CSS can you change layout design and so forth or is alot of it locked, if that makes sense?
-
You can use Custom CSS to make any design changes that CSS allows — you can use CSS to change how your theme design looks, but it won’t change the content on the page. If you’re new to CSS, I’d recommend learning more about the basics to find out how it works:
-
thanks alot for your time Rachel…
Last question… can I pay someone to do CSS for me and implement the changes I want at wordpress?
thanks
Fraser
-
Hi Fraser,
WordPress.com doesn’t offer that kind of service, but if you find someone who is willing to make those CSS changes for you you’re welcome to do that. In that case, I’d recommend having that person create their own WordPress.com account so you can invite them as a user on your site, to make those changes.
