Domain mapping issues on dalryprimary.wordpress.com
-
My site is set to map the domain http://www.dalry.edin.sch.uk, however there seems to be some issue with this as the site has been unavailable for some months, on either address, with the error ‘an internal server error has occured’. The domain to be mapped is a government managed one for education, so there may be anomalies for mapping.
Can a WordPress engineer please look into this?
Many thanks,
Graeme

edinburghbrightfutures.com is still up and running. I see the same error as you when I try to visit http://www.dalry.edin.sch.uk. I don’t think that is a WordPress.com error.
You need to map http://www.dalry.edin.sch.uk as a subdomain (versus mapping a regular domain) Here are the instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-subdomain/
Please let me know if you need more help.

Hi lizkarkoski,
Having read the help document it seems that the issue may be the fact that WordPress removes the www. With these government-managed addresses, the www must be present – you’re right in saying it’s not a WordPress error.
Is there any way around this in WordPress, so will I not be able to map the domain successfully due to the removal of the www?
Many thanks,
G

Try to add the DNS records via https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-subdomain/
Every domain is different. It may work without the ‘www’. If it does not, there is no way to make ‘www’ work on WordPress.com.

The DNS records are all in place – apart from MX as that isn’t appropriate.
This domain needs the www. If there is no way to make it work in WordPress I guess we can’t map the domain properly. Shame.
