Domain mapping: keep the domain.wordpress.com url as well ?

If I upgrade using the domain mapping feature, will i keep the original domain.wordpress.com in addition to the new domain.com url, or does it get completely replaced by domain.com ?

    Thanks!

You can use either, or both. I’ve got both registered and pinging Technorati, for instance, and that’s a good thing because when you link to someplace within the blog, Technorati will count it as a link from yourblog.wordpress.com to yourblog.com.

So, this means that if I some time in the future want to move completely from blogname.wordpress.com to blogname.net, I’ll have to change all the internal URLs? The question might belong to a wordpress.org-forum, but does anyone know of any automated way to fix all the links to posts in my own blog? If there isn’t, then that’s a serious reason for me not to swich.

There isn’t as far as I know. As long as you’re at WordPress.com your links will still work, even if you get the domain name upgrade. But if you take that domain name and move off WP.com to an independent host, all the links formatted with blogname.wordpress.com will break. You can just do a search through the blog for such links and change them as you find them.

Thanks for the answer and sorry for the double post :)

As I said, if you use the domain upgrade and stay hosted at WordPress.com you don’t need to change the links even if the URL changes. That ONLY becomes an issue if you want to leave WP.com entirely.

If you want to know automated fixes in that case, you need to ask at WordPress.org. By definition, it wouldn’t apply to people with their blogs here.
