Domain mapping mistake

  • Unknown's avatar

I have had a wordpress blog (bosmosis.wordpress.com) for a few years now. Recently, I was trying to create a separate webpage (johnbocskay.com) to serve as an official author page, as I have a book coming out in the spring. When I paid for the upgrade, I was asked to map the johnbocskay.com domain to a blog, and my original blog (bosmosis) was the only option. Only after doing that did I realize that this has served to basically direct johnbocskay.com to my old blog, which was never my intention, and I can’t find any way of undoing the mapping. My question is twofold:

    1) How do I undo the mapping?
    2) What do I need to do to create a separate, stand-alone webpage called johnbocskay.com? Do I have to start a new blog/webpage (called for example johnbocskay.wordpress.com) and map it to johnbocskay.com? Or can I just create a site called johnbocskay.com without having to map it to anything?

    Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @bosmosis,

Where did you buy the domain?

The way you would do this is to first start a new free blog (called for example johnbocskay.wordpress.com), and then map johnbocskay.com to the johnbocskay.wordpress.com domain.

I’ve tagged this thread for staff attention, so they’ll hopefully help you out with this. In the meantime, you can start your new blog so you’re ready when they help you out.

    Thanks for the reply.

I bought the domain through WordPress.

I kind of figured I’d have to start a new blog/webpage to serve as the eventual author page, and I’ve gone ahead and created a site called johnbocskay.wordpress.com. Now I just need to get the johnbocskay.com to direct to there, and to get the old blog back under the original name if possible (which was bosmosis,wordpress.com). I’ll await staff assistance. Thanks for the help.

  • Hi there,

I’ve moved the domain to the new site for you. Please clear your browser cache or your browser will keep trying to take you to the old site if you load the domain, but otherwise you should be good to go.

    Thanks! That did it.
