Domain mapping not applied

  • Unknown's avatar

I paid for domain mapping for oldreliablepress.com. I own the domain name. I pointed the DNS toward wordpress. I type oldreliablepress.com into the url bar. It takes me where I want to go, but it still comes up Sas oldreliablepress.wordpress.com. Why?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey there!

You still need to make oldreliablepress.com your Primary Domain so it appears in the address bar.

To do that, click the link below:
    https://wordpress.com/my-domains

Select the WordPress.com blog, oldreliablepress.wordpress.com, then click oldreliablepress.com…and then select the Update Primary Domain button.

That should do the trick! Keep in mind: it could take several minutes for that change appears online.

If I can help in any other way, please drop me a line. Cheers :)

    Hi thatrobyn/

Sorry about the slow reply, but many thanks! That worked perfectly.

Another issue I’m confused about: I had a page called Memory Lane, which had two posts on it – fewer than I’d hoped for, but they were there. Those links now appear as comments, with no attachment to the page. I’ve deleted the page because it now posts as Not Found. I was considering deleting the page anyway, but I’m concerned about what will happen with future posts by others to any pages I make interactive.

    Hi Michael,

Your ‘Memory Lane’ page still exists. It was not deleted, but moved to “Draft” instead of “Published.” Find it here:

    https://wordpress.com/pages/drafts/oldreliablepress.wordpress.com

Because the page still exists, that’s why your comments are saved. If you ever delete (move to trash) a page or post, any comments that were made on that page or post get deleted with it.

    Thanks alexjgustafson/

My fault for posting just before going to sleep. I did mean to say I’d moved it to a draft status.

I still don’t understand why the two posts on that page ceased appearing there and were listed separately as comments with no page affiliation. In my Comments section, they are listed under In Response To Memory Lane. The View Page link yields a Not Found page. It was doing that before I moved Memory Lane to Draft status.

    Thanks/

Apologies for the duplicate postings. Twice I was told to slow down and return to the forums which I did, apparently while the reply was being posted.

    Hi Michael,

It appears that you set the page Memory Lane to be your Posts page in your reading settings before changing it to a Draft.

I suspect that’s the cause of both those situations.

The two comments were made on the Page’s content, and if that web address is being used for your Posts instead, the Page content gets essentially ignored.
