Domain Mapping not Directing WordPress.com Domain to Already Hosted Domain
-
I’ve purchased WordPress Domain Mapping and attempted to set it up. I want http://www.arlingtonkids.wordpress.com to redirect to http://www.arlkids.com. When I tried to do the redirect from the http://www.arlingtonkids.wordpress.com backend it said that because I am redirecting to a self hosted URL I would need to take the following and change my DNS in my hosting account. I did that and it worked and directed properly to my new site. A few minutes later I refreshed a pg on the new site and it made my http://www.arlkids site redirect to http://www.arlingtonkids.wordpress.com which is the exact opposite of what I want. I’ve looked through this forum and have found pretty much every scenario except this one. Can anyone help?
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi. If you want to redirect an existing __.wordpress.com URL to a self-hosted blog, what you need is actually the site redirect upgrade:

Thanks for your quick reply. That is actually what I purchased and used. Any other thoughts?

I’m flagging this thread for Staff attention. Please also use the contact form. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

Just to be sure, do you want http://arlingtonkids.wordpress.com/ -> http://arlkids.com/ (a non-WordPress.com site)?

Ok, in that case the problem here is that you purchase a Domain Mapping upgrade.
You’ll need to purchase a Site Redirect upgrade instead.
Would you like me to cancel and refund your Domain Mapping upgrade now?

Update: I went to purchase the Site Redirect Upgrade and it gave me this msg….
“A domain mapping already exists for that host. You do not need to buy a site redirect if you already have a domain mapping.”
I switched the arlkids.com and made it the “Primary” and things are redirecting properly now. But I didn’t purchase anything new. Did you happen to switch the service for me?

You still have a domain mapping upgrade, but it looks like the right changes were made on the domain’s end for it to work as desired. Well done! :)

Yesterday I paid $25 to get a new domain name and redirect the old to the new — restaurant-ingthroughhistory.com instead of victualling.wordpress.com. That seems to have taken effect but the trouble is that if anyone types the new URL into their browser they get behind the scenes of my blog and can view my account, my stats and everything. Help! I need to stop this immediately!
-
@victualling – I can’t get to your Dashboard – try logging out and then visiting your site – WordPress.COM is probably remembering who you are. Your other visitors should not see what you saw.

It worked this time, hooray! Thank you. I had tried logging out earlier, and even had someone else type in the URL from their computer and we both kept getting into the Dashboard. Whatever the problem was, evidently it resolved itself. What a relief.
