Domain Mapping Not Working 2
-
I figured since the other topic that I posted in says “resolved” i would start a new thread.
I registered the domain http://www.bejones.com with godaddy.com and changed the nameservers at godaddy.com on. WordPress has mapped the domain to my blog bejonesdotcom.wordpress.com.
I had everything working fine today up until about an hour ago, and now every time I type in the url http://www.bejones.com I get forwarded straight to the Godaddy.com site that says they have parked my domain for free.
So help would be good since everyone that tries to get there is not going to a dead link.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I clicked this link http://www.bejones.com/ and arrived here http://bejonesdotcom.wordpress.com/ The domain mapping is working here in Canada. It can take between 24 – 72 hours for the domain name change propagates throughout the internet. See here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/#A/www.bejones.com/

If you think there is something wrong you can contact Staff directly but I believe this will settle out just as the domain mapping on my blogs which switched back and forth for awhile did. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

Most ISPs employ more than one DNS cache. More than likely you’re currently connected to one of their caches which has not refreshed yet.

I’m having a similar problem. However I have not waited the 24-72 hours so I too will be patient. Two quick questions though:
1. When I changed the server info at namesarecheap.com it only gave me the option to change two servers instead of the three that are shown in WP instructions. Will this cause a problem?
2. As I have made my domain name the primary domain it now longer shows my blog but automatically redirects to my company website. Is it normal that it redirects somewhere else and why would it be my company?
This is my domain map: http://www.mylesfaulkner.wordpress.com > mylesfaulkner.com
Thanks for your help.

@Myles
Is this the domain name your purchased or not? http://mylesfaulkner.com/ If it is then the domain mapping to it from http://www.mylesfaulkner.wordpress.com is working correctly. If that’s not the domain name you purchased then please post the correct one here for Staff to take note of.

http://mylesfaulkner.com/ appears to be working properly.
It can take domain changes up to 72 hours (though usually much less) to propagate to your ISP. Unfortunately, we have no control over this as it all depends on how often your ISP refreshes their DNS cache.
Having only two nameservers is fine. They’re all redundant. The second one is there in case the first fails, and the third is there in case the first two fail.

Thank you both for responding. Yes I did purchase that domain name and mapping it to it from http://www.mylesfaulkner.wordpress.com. It is interesting that you have it working, as it isn’t working on either my or my colleagues computers. Oddly though it does appear to be working on my iPad.
So in layman’s terms, are you saying that basically all four corners of the cyberworld need to refresh before this works properly and that it is just a matter of waiting out the process?
Also as this process seems to require the removal of ‘www’ from the address, should I be suggesting to people that they have to manually put in the ‘http//:’ as opposed to just ‘mylesfaulkner.com’ in order to avoid a browser automatically adding ‘www’ and it not opening up? This seems a bit clumsy in this day and age, and risks people giving up before finding the site. I’m sure I’m missing something obvious.
Many thanks again for your time. You folks are great!!

See here so you can monitor the process of the domain name change propagating throughout the internet. http://www.whatsmydns.net/#A/mylesfaulkner.com/ This process can take 72 hours or more. We have no control over when these center choose to flush their DNS caches.
The “www’ (world side web) is unnecessary and old fashioned. It will redirect to the URL without the “www’ in it automatically.

Thanks @timethief. So one last question in reference to the ‘www’. Would the same work if someone did enter ‘www.mylesfaulkner.com’? Would it just redirect automatically to ‘mylesfaulkner.com’? Thanks again.

I used the site listed above to check my dns propagation and they are all green checks…I assume that means it is propagated, as it worked once. Now when I go to chloeizabella.com all I get is a white screen.
I as others have not waited the 24-72 hours but as per your instructions above it seems it should be working.
Please let me know if it is accessible from your end, it isn’t on mine and I am using Charter.
Thanks so much.

I am in Canada and the redirect is working correctly here. A white screen is normally an indication that you need to log out and clear your browser cache and cookies, you are using an outdated browser, or your flash is not up-to-date.
- You could have a browser issue so try changing your browser settings, refreshing the page, or clearing the browser cache and cookies – instructions for specific browsers.
- Note that when you make adjustments to your browser settings — changing privacy settings, deleting cookies or increasing security — you will need to close your window and restart the browser before those new settings become effective.
- You could try upgrading your browser. http://browsehappy.com
- You could try using another browser.
- You can use this link to see if your flash is up to date.
- If it’s not up to date then this is where to download and install the latest version of flash.

I see a video of some kid and a red & blue bottle
you can have problems with local caching, so others many times can see a new site that you can’t if you have visited it.

Thanks for the expedient reply, I am using Chrome and firefox, have cleared cache/cookies, still no love. Maybe its just going to have to be patience on my part, just strange that it worked for a second. I see at the bottom of my page it is doing the redirect, but then the page doesn’t load. I suppose I will wait a few hours and try my luck again. Thank you for the help.

The cache problems can be at your ISP or other routers on the internet – all external to your PC

Ahh, I see what you mean, When I put the www. in front it takes me to the youtube page i used to have it directed to, and I did within the last few hours change all that forwarding from godaddy to the new wordpress blog. I am learning slowly, lol. All I need is just a little patience ;) You guys are awesome with all the quick replies.

Just wanted to come back and say thanks again. It is now working on my end. Another issue resolved :)
