Domain Mapping not working when DNS records added for external email hosting

  • Unknown's avatar

I have domain mapping set up for turfvalleyoverlook1.org to my wordpress.com page which was working fine until I added DNS records for external email hosting using the instructions from my email host provider. See link below for screen shot of DNS records. The host provider also had me add DNS A records for the two WP.com IP addresses, but they keep disappearing, so assuming that WP doesn’t like that? Either way, with and without the IP DNS records, the web site wouldn’t load when I had the email DNS records as shown in the link below. When I removed the 4 DNS records relating to email, the web site loads again as is currently the case.

In the My Sites page, it also says ‘DNS Configuration required’ in the upper left, with a Fix link. But when I click the link, and then Learn More, it says domain is validated, yet the message remains.

What needs to be done to get the domain working for both the wp.com web site and the external email hosting? I need to resolve this soon or I’m going to need to cancel the domain mapping to wp.com and set-up the domain on the email host side.

    Thank you!

  • Hello @turfvalleyoverlook,

I can see your https://turfvalleyoverlook1.org/ loading fine.

May I know who is your Email Provider? We could probably get some help from there. I’ll try to help you setting up your DNS.

You may also want to check if your Email Provider is listed here:

The web site is loading fine bc as I noted above, I’ve removed the email related DNS records.

I’ve already been working with the email provider (osiriscomm.com) and they checked the dns records I had (screenshot above) and confirmed they looked correct.

Is there someone at wordpress.com who can verify that the dns email records in the screen shot are correct or suggest a change?

    Thank you!

Sorry. I was logged into another account when I made that last reply, but it’s still me. Thanks!

  • Hello @turfvalleyoverlook,

Has it already been sorted out? :)

No. Not sorted out yet. Still waiting for help with the DNS settings so that I can connect both the web site and email hosting.

  • Please try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies. It sounds like there were some changes you were trying to make that were not working.

Please tell me who is you Email Hosting provider, so I can check from their website the DNS settings needed on your WordPress.com account.

    Regards,
    Rose

I tried clearing cache multiple times with no change. The minute I removed the email related dns records, the web page worked.

The email provider is osiriscomm.com. They gave me the following dns records to add which you can see that I added in the screenshot and they confirmed looked correct in the dns records –

    MX: Priority 10, mail.turfvalleyoverlook1.org
    A: mail.turfvalleyoverlook1.org – 208.64.58.16
    A: webmail.turfvalleyoverlook1.org – 208.64.58.11
    TXT: v=spf1 a mx include:osiriscomm.com ~all

This seems to be an advanced dns issue as I’ve already had a lot of help from an experienced member of the Osiris tech support.
