Domain Mapping only issue

  Hello WordPress,
  On one of my sites, I have Domain Mapping only (I own the domain through somewhere else). But on this new site, it keeps trying to force me into a monthly plan vs. the 18$ a year domain mapping. How do I get just the domain mapping for my new site?

  This is taken right from the domain mapping support page.

  Getting Started With Domain Mapping
  To map a domain, you’ll need:

  An upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site (such as a Personal, Premium or Business plan, etc.)
  To add a mapping subscription to your site
  To update the name servers for the domain so they point to WordPress.com

  You do need to have an upgraded plan.

  My other website doesn’t have an upgraded plan though. I just pay for the domain. I read that documentation. And also, if I entered a new domain (one that no one had yet claimed) I could attach it for 18$ a year.

  So, how come I can do it one one site, and not the other?

  Why can’t I do on my new site what I did before? If you offer domain mapping for free with paid plans, then 18$ per year, why can’t I not have a plan and then pay the 18$ per year just for the domain mapping?

  The help would be greatly appreciated.

  And also, I’ve already looked at the documentation linked above. :)

  Sorry for the delayed response. I did some research for you. WordPress Staff @supernovia noted this in another forum reply

  we stopped offering those options years ago as they don’t sufficiently cover our costs to host, maintain, and support them. People who had those options already were grandfathered in, but we no longer sell them.
  You are welcome to continue using a free site until you’re ready to upgrade to Personal, though. And once you upgrade, domain mapping is free.

  Hi there @4seasonsofepicfantasy that is the correct information concerning the old standalone mapping upgrade. You’ll need to purchase an upgrade plan now for new sites. If you wish to purchase the Personal plan, add that to your cart first before mapping your domain.
