Domain/Mapping/Payment Plan
-
I currently have a domain with 123 reg that I would like to map my WordPress site to. I have done this before and I believe it only cost £11, now when I try it is not allowing me to do so without setting up a Premium plan for £84 per year. Is there a way to avoid this, at most I only need a Personal Plan.
Alternatively, if I were to cancel my domain name with 123 reg could I re-buy this through WordPress?

You do need a paid plan, any paid plan, to set a custom domain as your site’s primary address: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#set-a-primary-address

Fair enough, as I say – I only need the Personal Plan at the most but it is defaulting to Premium which I do not need.

Got ya! I think I’ve just managed to set it up. So far it says “Site Title – coming soon” so I will see in a while if it has successfully mapped. Thanks for your help.

Yep, https://hazelbuller.co.uk/ seems to be working well, at least for me. :)
When a domain is registered or altered, there is a process called propagation, where information about the domain name is passed to internet service providers all over the world. This process can take up to 72 hours (though usually much less). During that time, your domain may go to its old location, and you may also receive a warning message in your browser about “redirect errors.”
If you still have trouble viewing the site after 24 hours have passed, please try clearing your browser’s cache: https://www.refreshyourcache.com/
If that doesn’t work, try clearing your local DNS cache: https://www.whatsmydns.net/flush-dns.html
