Domain mapping problem

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there, I have just purchased a domain upgrade for my site, jasminevincent.wordpress.com by mapping a domain that I currently own, jasminevblog.com. It is correctly directed to WordPress DNS as I had previously mapped this to jasminevskp.wordpress.com (but the upgrade has been canceled there).

My site is not loading properly now. This is perhaps due to jasminevincent.wordpress.com being previously mapped to jasminevincentphoto.com.

    Can you please advise:
    1) if there is any issue with my mapping of jasminevblog to jasminevincent.wordpress.com?
    2) if I can have the website showing http://www.jasminevblog.com instead of jasminevblog.com (i.e. to have the www prefix)?

    Thanks!
    Jasmine

Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades is where you do the primary blog set up knowing it can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet.

It can take as long as 72 hours for DNS changes to become widely available. Please wait a few more hours, clear your browser cache, and try again. http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clear-your-cache-and-cookies

I am in Canada and the domain mapping redirect is working fine for me. It is not unusual for the last place to flush their DNS caches to be your own ISP. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during this stage is to be patient.

    re: www in any URL
No you cannot have that redundant prefix. WordPress.com actually strips out the www for your convenience, and all URLs containing the “www” will always seamleassly redirect to the same content under the same URL without the “www”.

www is an old protocol from back when world wide web was created and everything was under separate server hardware. www (www.example.com) was the web server, mail (mail.example.com) was the mail server, ftp (ftp.example.com) was the FTP server, print (print.example.com) was the print server, etc.

These days, everything is run under the web server, making www. redundant and a waste of four characters.
