Domain Mapping Problem – Missing nameservers reported by parent

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to map the site http://portersdrivingschool.co.uk to http://portersdriving.wordpress.com

After paying WordPress.com for the domain mapping and as instructed have logged onto my DNS control panel and added the three name servers mentioned in the documentation…

    ns1.wordpress.com
    ns2.wordpress.com
    ns3.wordpress.com

Unfortunately, visiting the domain shows a default control panel. I updated the DNS settings on Thursday 23rd July so they have had plenty of time to propagate.

    Visiting…
    http://www.intodns.com/portersdrivingschool.co.uk
analyses the domain and indicates “Missing nameservers reported by parent”

After speaking to tech support at my domain register he suggests that I should contact WordPress to find out what web address I can use to point to the site and set up frame forwarding.

I would be grateful if anyone can advise what this address would be required to set up frame forwarding?

Please feel free to ask me any follow up questions that might help resolve this issue.

Many thanks in advance for your time.

    Hi there,

Is there a particular reason why your domain registrar suggests using frame forwarding instead of resolving the issue with your domain’s name servers? Your domain registrar should be able to help you resolve the error with how your domain’s name servers are set, and that is the best way to use your domain with your WordPress.com site.

If you want to set up frame forwarding, you can use your WordPress.com site’s free address: https://portersdriving.wordpress.com/

However, please keep in mind that some WordPress.com features (including your stats) may not work properly with frame forwarding, so I highly recommend trying to resolve the name server issue before considering frame forwarding as an option.

If there’s anything more I can do to help with that, please let me know!

    Hi rachelmcr,

Thanks for getting back to me and apologies for the delay in reply. I managed to speak to one of your colleagues Bruce A. who opened a support ticket for this. (Ticket #2280627)

In the end we were not able to get the WordPress NS records working using my domain registrar’s control panel. The route we went down was to create two A records using the following IP addresses.

    192.0.78.25
    192.0.78.24

This seems to have done the trick (for now at least). It is good to know that I could ask the domain registrar to setup frame forwarding as an option should the A record solution ever stop working.

    Many thanks again.
