Domain mapping query
-
I’m just wondering If I upgrade to domain mapping will the permalinks still be ***.wordpress.com/2009/*** or will it be mydomain.com/2009/***
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If purchase a domain and move your blog on to it and also purchase domain mapping, they will seamlessly change to “mydomain.com/2009/…” and the PageRank will not be affected.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
I’ve already purchased my domain. I’m in the process of getting a host.
I don’t intend to place ads but I’ve read that WordPress may place ads. Are there ads placed on every page ‘cos I haven’t seen any on wordpress.com blogs -
SIGH. Yes wordpress.COM does occasionally run ads. No I don’t know which blogs they run ads on. Yes I have seen ads. http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/
If you get a domain and a web host and self host an install from http:// wordpress.ORG you can have ads. You are the master of your own domain when you are self hosting.

My understanding is that if ads are going to show up, it will be for someone coming from a search engine, but that they will not show up every time, only occasionally. I also believe that the may occasionally show up for people coming from the global tags pages, but I’m not entirely sure about that.
Personally I’ve only seen ads on one blog in the entire time I’ve been here (3 years).

You know though I should add that I’ve been using adblock on both Safari and Firefox for as long as they have been available, so that is probably why I haven’t seen them.

I’m new to wordpress so I don’t want to go host my own blog just yet. I’ll work on wordpress.com and see how it goes. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Another query that has sprung to my mind about domain mapping as I’ve been checking other free hosting options namely Blogetery
Will the permalink on the draft page appear as ***.wordpress.com/2009/*** or mydomain.com/2009/*** -
On the draft page it doesn’t matter, but it’ll be the former. On the actual post, it’ll be whichever URL you’ve set as primary.
