Domain Mapping Question

Hello there, I am interested in doing the following…

This is exactly what I have wanted to do, but I don’t own a domain. Where can I get one?
A: Here of course! Simply login to your WordPress.com Dashboard, click on Options > Domains and enter the domain you wish to purchase in the box. If the domain is available, it will allow you to purchase it and map it to your WordPress.com blog.

I was wondering, if I were to do this how would it effect things like ‘newsnow’ or my feed (I use feedburner). Any help/advice would be most welcome

If those services and people using those services use your current feed of http://arsenalnews.wordpress.com/feeds/, nothing will change and they will still be able to access your feed that way forever. The domain mapping would just add another option for users of say http://arsenalnews.com/feed/ as the current way would just redirect to your mapped domain feed and work fine.

Thank you for your reply trent, on feedburner for example it says…

‘You should not change “Original Feed” unless you move your original feed to a new domain or a new location on your existing server. Also, changing “Feed Address” will require you to update your feed subscribers with your new address; the previous feed address will no longer work.’

So would I have to change either the original feed or feed address if i were to go with the domain mapping option.

secondly on newsnow you can request a name/url change by visiting here…

    http://www.newsnow.co.uk/publishers/name-url-change.html

would i have to do this?

third question, i promise, is my dedicated headline page html or rss?

    thank you for your time!

WordPress.com offers “domain mapping” and not a complete “domain change”. Let me explain. Our way of mapping domains has your original blog http://arsenalnews.wordpress.com/ always there. It never disappears and will always resolve. Usually, when you add a domain everywhere else on the net, the previous name will never resolve. That is not the case here.

For example, my blog was originally http://trentadams.wordpress.com and my “mapped domain” is http://trentadams.ca . Regardless of what service I use, my feed will resolve both ways to everyone as:

    http://trentadams.wordpress.com/feed/
    http://trentadams.ca/feed/

Both are identical and work for me. So, while you can change the URL of your feed in the programs you are talking about, personally, I don’t think it will cause a problem if you change the name or not as the people who use the original feed address will still have it resolve and work for them.

    Does that make sense?

    What dedicated headline page?

I wouldn’t worry about changing any URLs with the RSS services. The previous URLs will still work.
