Domain mapping to wordpress.com
-
Currently, our company uses a wordpress.org site with a domain we already own (through arvixe).
We have no one on staff who is web-savvy, and so the website has become a bit of an outdated headache for us. We would like to:
1) build an entirely new website in wordpress.com
2) keep our outside domain name, but transfer it (map it) to the new wordpress.com site
(i.e. change from .org to .com, but by building an entirely functional website first and then mapping the domain from the old .org site to the new .com site).
Is this possible?
I am entirely new to this and would appreciate any insights you can provide.
Thanks! The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can create a website on WordPress.com and when you are ready you have to purchase the domain map upgrade from your dashboard.

Thank you for your response! Also I am wondering what will happen to the old website once we “re-map” the domain/is it a problem that a site already exists at that URL?

The old website will remain in your hosting provider’s server. If you don’t renew your hosting the site will be deleted.
After the “re-map” your domain will point to your WordPress.com site not the old one.
