domain mapping to wrong address
-
I recently set up a blog and purchased an upgrade that resulted in several issues. WordPress.com has kindly refunded me the plan purchase and the domain mapping fee. The problem is, WP mapped my domain correctly – but did not unmap it. The refund for the mapping refers to the blog as a subsite of wordpress.com. I need WP to unmap http://www.workingtitlewritings.com so that it doesn’t keep redirecting to https://en.wordpress.com/typo/?subdomain=workingtitlewritings.

I am having similar problems (http://doohan.id.au) – despite the removal of the Domain Mapping feature, the nameservers still show as delegated to WordPress. No one seems to know how to solve the problem, and until it’s resolved I can’t move use the domain for a hosted WP.org blog.

There are a number of horror stories about this issue. Wish I’d known before wasting a day troubleshooting this. My workaround was to use a different domain name.

Hi there,
We don’t control your domains’ name servers. You had to change the name servers at your domain registrars to point the domains here, and it is also at your domain registrars that you need to change them back. We have no way of doing that, and we never had. A domain’s name servers can ONLY be set at the domain registrar, nowhere else. We lost the only access we did have, namely control of the DNS records, the moment you removed the mapping upgrades.
So for workingtitlewritings.com you need to contact Google for help, as that’s where you registered that domain. From what I can see, that domain’s name servers are already pointed back to Google.
And for doohan.id.au you need to contact NetRegistry, though the name servers for that domain are already pointing to ezyreg.com
In both cases, if you’re still getting redirected to WordPress.com the problem is either in your browser cache or in your computer’s DNS cache. Clearing those caches should fix the problem.

Thank you for your reply, and of course that was my first line of action when I moved to another platform. I would show you a screenshot if I could, but here is a copy/paste of my NS info:
Use the Google Domains name servers (checked)
NAME SERVER
ns-cloud-d1.googledomains.com
ns-cloud-d2.googledomains.com
ns-cloud-d3.googledomains.com
ns-cloud-d4.googledomains.com
I have also submitted a ticket to Google Domains and am waiting to hear their testing results. -
For what it’s worth, that domain does not redirect to WordPress.com for me, but to a page not found error page for a different provider, I assume Google. This would indicate that the domain is not yet connected to a site on their end.

Thank you, I noticed that too – whatever remnants remained attached to the domain name are now gone and I’ve been able to redirect. Thanks!
