Domain Mapping – transfer user when ‘owner’ no longer around
-
Hi – I started work with my organisation last year and have full responsibility to manage and update our website.
However, the website is down this week as our Domain Mapping (registration?) expired at end Jan 2021.
I can’t renew the Domain Mapping as I don’t have authorisation, but the user who does (and who is the only one who can transfer domain mapping) is someone who I believe helped to set up the site many years ago, but has had no involvement in our organisation since.I’ve tried to contact them, but have had no reply – and it would be a long-shot as to whether they would still have their login details still after all this time.
Can WordPress – or how can I – transfer the domain mapping to me so that I can renew and get our website up and running again?
Thank you,
Rachael -
Hello Rachael,
Many thanks for reaching out.
The domain mapping subscription owner would need to renew that domain mapping subscription, we wouldn’t be able to move that across accounts without permission.
Should that not be renewed within 2 weeks of expiry – the domain mapping should be available for re-mapping.
I hope this helps.

Thank you.
Yes, that’s what the information I have so far seems to be telling me. But what happens if I can’t get hold of the domain mapping subscription owner? Would I just have to wait the 2 weeks and then re-subscribe as new? -
Hello there,
Yes, that’s what the information I have so far seems to be telling me. But what happens if I can’t get hold of the domain mapping subscription owner? Would I just have to wait the 2 weeks and then re-subscribe as new?
That’s correct – you would need to wait for those two weeks to pass to re-subscribe.
If you are able to get in contact, you can ask them to reach out for us to that transfer via: https://wordpress.com/help/contact
I hope this helps.
I hope this helps!
