Domain mapping troubles

  • Unknown's avatar

    I have been trying and trying to map my blog to my domain name. However, it will not let me. I have made sure all the nameservers were changed and followed every step possible list under the support to map my domain, however, when I attempt to go to my blog using the my domain, it tells me the web page cannot be found. I have been at this for hours and cannot get anywhere. HELP!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    When I click on your name I end up http://unconventionalmama.com/

    http://www.whatsmydns.net/#NS/unconventionalmama.com

    You can have local caching issues with your ISP and other routers – it can take 24 to 72 hours for the changes reach the far corners of the internet –

    I have had several people in different parts of the country attempting to view my blog and it is not active. It keeps giving them the error “this webpage cannot be found”.

    Your blog is redirecting correctly for me. I am in Canada. Also note that we have no control over when the various locations clear their DNS caches. The bottom line here is be please be patient while waiting for the domain name changes to propagate throughout the internet.

    I did a private domain registration two days ago. I got an error message saying that the domain registration did not work. But whois shows the domain is registered to wordpress. And I did get an email saying the domain registration went through (the payment did). But I still do not see in as a domain under upgrades/domains in admin.

    Even if it takes 72 hours to propagate through the internet, shouldn’t it show up as a domain in admin? Don’t you have to select the new domain as your primary address before it will propagate through the net? Support is not responding.

    Unlike on the visitors side of my blogs where the URLs are all to the domain, on the Admin pages of my domain mapped blogs what I see in the upper browser bar is the wordpress.com “root” blog URLs. This is normal.

    @ighsc
    I clicked submit to soon and forgot to say I have flogged this thread for Staff attention.

  • ighsc, by some strange cosmic coincidence, I actually just replied to your ticket.

    In short, it’s all working properly now.

    Interesting as I just bought a domain through wordpress today and mine is not showing either. I have submitted a ticket.

    @pauljnorris
    This is the result of clicking your username link.

    pauljnorris.wordpress.com is no longer available.
    The authors have deleted this blog.

    If you are referring to another “active” wordpress.com blog then perhaps you would like to link your username to it. If so it’s easy to do. Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.

    Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

    Sorry not sure I was clear enough when I posted. I have purchased a .org domain from WordPress that purchasing process set up a blog called Paul Norris when I go to the dashboard for that under upgrades and domains it shows paulnorrisdotorg.wordpress.com and not paulnorris.org which is not what I expected, I expected my domain to be listed there.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Also whois.net shows my domain as available.

  • Unknown's avatar

    The dashboard side of the blog will always display the “root” blog URLs. This is normal.

    But in the domain section it should show paulnorris.org listed as one of my domains, where I can control renewals etc. However it is not there, although I have been charged for it.
