Domain Mapping Upgrade: Retroactive?

I’m wondering whether anyone who has their site domain-mapped has had this problem.

After logging in and checking one of my two main blogs, I very suddenly and unexpectedly encounter an expired domain notice. What is bizarre is that the expiry date is October 2007. That would make it two renewals ago. There was no warning or notice given either, as is given when your paid space upgrade is coming up for renewal.

Although I honestly can’t remember when I last renewed, I hit the renew button and paid 10 credits at Paypal, thinking maybe it was just a quirk in the system, very unlike WordPress. How could they be a year and a half late in prompting for a domain renewal? They’re usually pretty good.

I extended the domain for another year, up until October 2008. I wait a few minutes, then try to extend again, to bring it up to October 2009.

It encountered an error. The error code and message I got was this:

“An error occurred while renewing your upgrade. Please contact support giving them this code: 217005”

I have duly contacted Support, who again are pretty good in response time on the rare occasion I have needed to contact them, but I am exceedingly puzzled and not a little distressed that my blog domain is not registering at the link everyone has: peoplesgeography.com. I’ve temporarily set it to peoplesgeography.wordpress.com in the meantime.

Perhaps this is one for Support. I was just wondering whether this has happened to anyone else and what was the resolution.
